Tom Sandberg (born 1953) works consistently in black and white with a particularly strong visual vocabulary within tones of grey. Sandberg's images are not staged, instead he observes the world around him and captures the immediacy of his surroundings. Sandberg investigates the process of photography itself, exploring the specific qualities of the medium to emphasize the abstract and strictly formal aspects of the images.

Tom Sandberg resides and works in Oslo and Paris. He was educated in England, where he studied under the American photographer, Thomas J. Cooper. He has had solo exhibitions at several prestigious museums; among them, PS1, Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Astrup Fearnley Museet for Moderne Kunst. His work has been exhibited at an array of reknowned galleries in the Nordic region and Europe, and is included in national and international collections such as Magasin 3 in Stockholm, Nasjonalmuseet for Kunst, Bergen Kunstmuseum and Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
